Arts of Japan Tour, 2016

by: Jennifer Richardson on

We are thrilled to announce that we have teamed up with Bruce McWhinney to offer a unique Arts of Japan tour next autumn.

Bruce is an internationally acclaimed ceramic artist, painter and teacher. He has led numerous groups to Japan in the past and this one promises to be even better.

The journey will be totally unique and take us to places off the tourist trail and into the art communities and cover both the outrageous contemporary, like Street Art Fashion and exquisite Zen and Traditional Art forms and Culture.

We plan to head out next October and it will not only be the arts that will captivate our minds, the food will delight and the gardens will be showing off in spectacular colours.

Bali photo journey

My brother is a wonderful photographer, do you agree?

Corn anyone? Just one of the delights of having dinner at Jimbaran Bay.

Elegantly riding on scooter to work as a Temple dancer.

Flowers from my garden.

The Prince being carried during a cremation ceremony.

The Prince and Princess on their way to the cremation grounds.

A thousand stories in that face.

Eric Dozier teaching delivery techniques

This is a little clip from our rehearsals during Singing in Siena, 2015 week.

Watch those crouching lions getting ready to pounce with great delivery.

Marianne Backhouse

In Loving Memory of a very special Lady!

Below is a pic I took of a magical moment between Tony and Marianne in rehearsal in the forest in Singing in Siena, 2013.

Marianne used to love picking the grapes and fresh figs on the property of Montestigliano during Singing in Siena. I took this pic below in 2011.

Below is a little video I took of her in the Granary in Montestigliano singing a lullaby to her daughter Cristy. It is rough and unedited but hopefully it will serve as a memory of her beautiful spirit and divine voice.

She very recently became a young grandmother, so perhaps her lovely little granddaughter will enjoy being sung to as well.

Love and deepest sympathy to Tony Backhouse and her loving family and friends.

Forever in our thoughts, with love and gratitude.

Food, wine on the Dalmation Coast

by: Jennifer Richardson on

I traveled 30 hours - Sydney - Singapore - London - Zagreb - Split and possied up in a sweet room with a view.  I'm one happy camper!

I'm here for a week long recce to further explore the food, wine, singing and culture of the Dalmation Coast and of this little town before our Sailing and Culture trip departs to other islands on Saturday. I have to say that I am not disappointed.

Recce trips can be fun and it has been easy slipping into a routine here. The day begins with a walk through the old town to the cafe so I get my caffeine hit and take in the atmosphere, I then head off to the markets to buy my food for lunch. Walking through the vibrant market and stopping to buy delicious fresh produce is my kind'a heaven.

My favorite little piazza for morning coffee.

Trogir Markets.

Winding my way back through these gorgeous little alleys is such a delight.

And again the food... think fresh, think Mediterranean.. Adriatic to be more precise.

This little town really does it for me with all it's light and shade

Plans for another cooking and culture retreat are nicely brewing.

Singing and Sailing along the Dalmation Coast

by: Jennifer Richardson on

The intrepid traveler goes in search of new adventures to offer my fellow singers as well as cooks.. and I was pleasantly surprised to find some gorgeous a cappella music here.

Check out these local a cappella groups from the Dalmation Coast.

I think there will be a Singing and Sailing trip coming up soon with one of our hero choir directors and some local celebrity involvement .. you can tell me what you think of this idea too >>
