Funds for our beloved yogi, Estee

I had a chat with a few of you towards the end of “Singing in Bali” about Estee, our much loved Yoga teacher. Estee has, as some of you may have noticed, a growth on the back of her neck the size of a fist. This has been diagnosed by the doctors in Bali as a Lipoma. I spoke with Estee who said that she was saving up for a procedure to have it removed in Bangkok. With Estee’s Lipoma being on the back of her neck it would not be unlikely that it could cause problems for her while doing certain Yoga positions. From a purely cosmetic point of view, one would not say that it is an attractive thing. Estee usually hides it with her hair.
The procedure and the recovery time will cost about Aus$5,000 and for most of us that is a lot of money. For her it is a far greater sum. In fact it is 50,000,000 Ind rupiah. I decided that I would help her to get rid of this thing, however it is a lot of money for me too BUT with a little help from my friends …….we can do it together. Estee was understandably embarrassed by my offer of help but I have managed to talk her into it. See her letter and some additional information below.
Kind regards
Carolyn Marklew

Dear singing friends,

On the night of our Indus concert, Carolyn approached me with an incredibly generous offering.
She offered to lead a discreet crowdfunding effort for a medical procedure that I need and have been saving up for. I am very deeply touched and grateful by this offering and decided to accept and use this opportunity to practice the art of receiving. For this purpose, I'm writing this short description below of the situation:

Some of you, just like Carolyn, may have noticed the quite visible growth that is located behind my left shoulder and near my spine. It is called a lipoma or a fatty deposit, and it is non-cancerous and at the same time will likely keep growing in size. I have been experiencing no discomfort nor pain from it other than a wonky Shoulder Stand. 😄

Here is a link with an overview on lipoma:

In my last check-up, the official recommendation is to have it removed surgically. And due to the size and location, the procedure will involve a simple operation while I'm under general anesthesia. Post-operation recovery period is at least 10 days plus an extra period of taking it easy until I can get back to practicing and teaching yoga.

My current plan is to save up and have the procedure in Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok and then spend my post recovery time in Bangkok and then mostly in Koh Tao. Koh Tao is by the sea and a good friend and incredible teacher of mine runs a yoga studio there where I can spend my days healing and studying yoga through the study of texts and class observations. I shall also maximize my time for nourishing and healing by the sea, singing, walking, meditating, and writing. I imagine the whole procedure and healing will take, all in all, a maximum of 4-6 weeks.

Below is a list of my projected expenses. Some of these items are roughly estimated, and I shall be covering any unforeseen extra expenses personally:

1). Medical procedure : IDR 20,000,000
2). Flights DPS-BKK return: IDR 4,000,000
3). Ground transportation (airport transfers included): IDR. 3,000,000
4). Living costs (4 - 6 weeks) : IDR. 15,000,000

A total of IDR 42,000,000 or AUD 4,238 or NZD 4,372
I'd like to assure you that this effort is mainly a practice in receiving the inspired generosity of others and that whatever amount gathered would be most appreciated and most useful. I shall keep track of expenses and create a brief report and update for all of you post procedure and as I return to Bali. Thank you very much in advance.

To Carolyn and Jen and to all of you I send you my deep gratitude in hugs and songs,
Estee

We began small under the banner of Singabout however as our scope of creative workshops and packages grew, so too did our name.  The Create Escape was born in 2015 and our plans for the future are as exciting and big as the world we like to travel around.

We understand that you do not experience a destination and its' culture by seeing monuments, churches and museums, you experience it through the local people and their arts and hospitality.

We look forward to you joining us on one of our many programmes!
